When it comes to an insurance claim, there are three kinds of adjusters:
- Staff adjuster – someone who works for the same insurance company every day.
- Independent adjuster – someone who is hired by different companies to handle claims on their behalf.
- PUBLIC ADJUSTER – the only one licensed by the state to represent YOUR interest.
The value of hiring a public insurance adjuster:
“Hiring a public claims adjuster can put you on an even playing field with your insurance company. Your insurer may assign three different adjusters to work on your claim: one for “additional living expenses,” one for your personal property and one for the building portion of your claim. A public adjuster will be able to explain the process and work on your behalf handling the countless meetings, e-mails, phone calls and paper documents that flow for a large claim. The insured can get on with daily life and leave the insurance adjusting to a professional” -Amy Danise, Insure.com 7/22/2016
Why you need to hire a public adjuster as soon as your loss occurs:
While there are many reasons to hire a public adjuster, there are a few extremely important processes and initial meetings that the public adjuster immediately positively impacts for the client. The sooner you hire us, the more effective we can be.
- Reporting the claim: How the loss is initially reported can drastically change how the insurance company proceeds with (or even immediately rejects) the claim. Uninformed homeowners muddy the insurance claim waters by leaving out important or including confusing or misleading facts about the occurrence.
- Establishing a relationship with the insurer: Starting off the insurance claim process on the “right foot” allows for smoother process. Ball & Boyd are extremely familiar with nearly all of the insurance companies, their adjusters and policies, and how different companies operate through the claim process. We have established a good relationship with many of the staff and independent adjusters, and while this helps the process move along in a friendly manner, we are not afraid to put our foot down and fight for the insured when necessary.
- Setting the claim reserve: The reserve is the amount of money the insurance adjuster estimates and recommends the company “set aside” for the repairs as seen in the initial viewing of the damage. The reserve, while far from a fixed value, is viewed by the insurance company as a max settlement value. There are many steps that the insurance adjuster must go through to settle the claim once the reserve has been surpassed, and this creates a sometimes unrealistic and stubborn settlement goal. Hiring a public adjuster to deal with this initial meeting insures that the insurance company has set a reasonable reserve based on the more accurate and expected cost of repairs.
